Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) and Teachers (RET): Global Change and Its Impacts
Global Change and Its Impacts
Surveying Above Natural Bridge Caverns

Above: Geoscience Professor Bayani Cardenas instructs REU students in setting up an electrical resistivity survey above Natural Bridge Caverns to investigate distribution of subsurface moisture and voids.

ESI's Summer 2010 REU/RET program is funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF). Applications are due Feb 1, 2010. Program runs from the first week of June until the first week of August.

Why is an interdisciplinary approach to Global Change issues important? Think about trying to manage complex environmental problems such as climate impacts on water resources. These problems cannot be approached successfully without considering the impacts of human influence on water or land use. Our program will illustrate approaches to attacking difficult, multidimensional environmental issues. The University of Texas at Austin is home to top faculty and researchers in the area of global change research.  ESI’s mission brings together researchers from a variety of disciplines, and as such allows you will gain a larger perspective on the state of global change science.

Students and teachers in the program will each work in a faculty-mentored research group. You will have the opportunity to explore research in the fields of ecology, geology, hydrogeology, civil engineering, urban planning, GIS, and coastal ecology, all as they relate to Global Change and Its Impacts. More about the REU/RET program.

Funded by the National Science Foundation.
