Purpose of position
Coordinate outreach activities. Work with NSF GK-12 project PI, Co-PI, Evaluator, other Program Coordinators, Hot Science - Cool Talks Outreach Lecture Committee in the areas of events, marketing, recruiting, and external relations.
Essential functions
Design and implement workshops, classroom and field observations, and weekly discussion sessions with GK12 teachers and graduate fellows. Work with PI, and Co-PI on the development and implementation of recruitment and retention strategies. Disseminate information about the program at local, regional, state and national conferences. Investigate opportunities for supplemental external funding. Work with the Hot Science - Cool Talks Outreach Lecture Series speakers in scheduling and developing presentations. Organize pre-lecture activities and creation of lecture educational CD-ROMs. Get clearance for copyrighted materials for CD. Supervise interns working on CD. Develop promotional materials, in both electronic and paper formats and implement strategies to increase awareness and involvement. Oversee program evaluations and prepare detailed reports and other program documents. Other tasks as assigned.
Marginal/Incidental functions
Work with program committees on the development and implementation of recruitment and retention strategies. Other tasks as assigned.
Required qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a science field or education. Five years experience in the K-12 classroom and/or the development of outreach activities. Texas Teacher Certification or equivalent. Broad knowledge and experience with outreach operations, strategies and related relationships. Excellent organizational skills and understanding of systems and processes, with attention to detail and the ability to be resourceful. Excellent verbal, interpersonal, and written communication skills. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment and the ability to work independently on multiple projects under pressure of deadlines. Proficient with personal computers and Microsoft Office applications. Licenses: Class "C" Operator's Driver's License. Applicant selected must provide a current three year Driving Record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, must obtain a Texas Driver's License within 30 days after entering Texas as a new resident. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred qualifications
Masters or PhD in Science or Science Education. Education or experience in environmental science. More than five years experience in the classroom and/or the development of outreach activities. Proven experience coordinating outreach programs and projects. Experience analyzing evaluation data to determine trends and summarizing findings. Ability to maintain confidentiality and to manage time efficiently. Experience obtaining copyright permissions for publications.
