Middlebury College Middlebury College in Vermont seeks to fill its Campus Sustainability Coordinator position with someone who is committed to excellence and to effecting change. The Campus Sustainability Coordinator guides the College on a path of national leadership in campus sustainability and environmental education by advancing existing and developing new programs and innovations to promote sustainable practices and awareness throughout the College. Middlebury’s supportive administration has a strong commitment to environmental education and campus sustainability. Therefore, the College has made significant advancements in the areas of sustainable design and construction, recycling and composting, energy efficiency, and local foods, and has received recognition and numerous awards. Middlebury College integrates green campus practices by transcending boundaries – not only in the academic, operations and administrative sectors, but also in the community, state, region and amongst peer institutions – by incorporating new ways of thinking, planning and acting. The Campus Sustainability Coordinator works with faculty, staff, students, administrators, campus committees and the greater community on a wide range of programs. The position creates collaborations between the academic and nonacademic sectors coordinating common goals and identifying opportunities between different offices, departments and external partners. Responsibilities include internal education and outreach, external relations, coordinating the College’s Environmental Council, providing resources, teaching a course, managing budgets, and supervising consultants and student employees. This individual develops proposals for review, plans the execution of projects, evaluates initiatives and disseminates results, and reports to the Director of Environmental Affairs.
The ideal candidate will have a Master’s degree or commensurate work experience, plus knowledge of sustainability issues and networks. Five years experience in a related field; experience in an academic setting is helpful. Strong writing and communication skills are required, as well as experience implementing successful programs from conception to closure. The position requires someone with leadership skills who can work independently and as part of a team on complex projects.
