National Wildlife Federation (NWF) is working to change water policy in Texas with a particular emphasis on protecting environmental flows, improving water use efficiency, and moving towards sustainable management of groundwater resources. The Living Waters Program seeks a motivated individual to join their team for a 12-17 week, full-time paid summer internship to begin May 2006 in Austin, Texas.
The Texas Living Waters Program Intern will support NWF’s efforts to improve water policy primarily by assisting in researching, documenting, and reporting on water conservation and drought management opportunities. She/he will research successful programs, help develop outreach materials, and help identify opportunities for improved water use efficiency. The Conservation Intern will also assist with document preparation and will complete special projects as assigned by the staff. Other intern duties may include logistical support for meetings and grassroots outreach, creation of technical materials and assisting with various administrative needs. The Texas Living Waters Program Intern must be available to work a 40-hour weekly schedule. This position offers a $320 weekly stipend, but does not include benefits.
Qualifications: Both academic and hands-on experience in water or natural resource management, conservation, hydrology, communications or related field is desired. Applicants with Bachelors degrees will be given preference. Excellent communication and organizational skills are required. Ability to use various computer software applications is a must. Demonstrated commitment to conservation issues is desirable.
