Photos from Iquitos!
( Jan. 18, 2008 )Iquitos is Awesome! I am finally in the rainforest! I arrived in Iquitos on Wednesday evening. Most people travel either by bus or by these little 3-wheeler ?mototaxis?. They are so cute! It looks like everyone is on an amusement park ride. It?s hysterical! I think the pollution is less here, but the noise from the mototaxis is loud.
Yesterday we rode out of town by mototaxi. The driver took us to several places to search for plants.
Gurania is everywhere! It?s like a roadside weed here. I can?t believe it! Of course,
Psiguria is not as easy to find.
I uploaded several photos from Iquitos. I can?t get the page to open right now, so I won?t be able to describe them in order, but basically there are a couple of photos of the mototaxis, some photos of the
Gurania that we collected on Thursday, and a cool bug. The painting on the side of the building says ?Ruido ? ??Piensa en mi future, el ruido me destruye!!?, which means ?Noise! Think of my future, the noise is killing me!? I think it is referring to the noise from the mototaxis and its effect on children?s ears.
Then, there is a photo of me in my yellow raincoat. Then, a photo of a cool flower called Heliconia. We hiked for several hours through the rainforest today. It was raining and very muddy! But it was worth it. We found (by amazing luck) the only (I think) surviving
Psiguria in that forest. We were stunned and so excited!!! It is the plant with the three leaves and the cluster of flowers. You can only see a little bit of orange on them. Of course there is a photo of me with the
Psiguria.
Finally, there are a few more photos of cool bugs that we saw. No, I don?t know what any of them are, I just thought they were cool-looking.
On Saturday, we are going to search for i>Psiguria in a boat!! It should be fun!
