Ms. Steele's Journals
Lima, Peru
( Jan. 15, 2008 )I have spent the last two days in the large capital city of Lima, Peru. I had planned to use this time to visit the herbarium, get the permits, and give a presentation to some local botany students. Unfortunately, the students are not around because it is summer vacation, and my local contact couldnt get them together.
Yesterday, I visisted the herbarium. They do not have a huge collection of
Psiguria, but I made notes of where collections have been made.
I had some free time, so I did a little shopping in the Peruvian artisans market. There are lots of beautiful sweaters, hats, gloves, scarves, and shawls made from alpaca wool. There are also lots of things made from gold.
On Wednesday I fly to Iquitos, which is the large city in northeastern Peru on the Amazon River. Most tourists come to Peru to visit Machu Pichu near Cuzco in southeastern Peru, so I dont think Iquitos will be very touristy. I shall see! Im looking forward to searching for
Psiguria by boat over the next several days.
