 Central Texas Environmental Issues Workshop

ISSUES: AIR AND WATER

The 2003 GK-12 Fall Workshop introduced classroom activities that focused on the affects of acid rain and water pollution on central Texas. TEKS based labs allow teachers' students to experiment and model important environmental issues, and, more importantly, allows them to assess for themselves possible long-term impact on local plants and animals.

The workshop also dealt with ways for teachers to do “mini” field trips and offered teachers management techniques to enable them to include outdoor learning experiences in K-12 lesson plans. During the workshop, time was spent testing the water quality in Waller Creek which runs through the UT campus.

All participants received free CD’s of lab activities, Outreach Lecture CD’s and other materials to take back to their schools. The workshop was held on UT campus on 11 October 2003 from 10 am to 2 pm.
