PLANTS AND AIR PURITY
This lesson allows students to see how green plants help improve air quality
Grade: 9th - 12th

POROSITY
Students will measure the pore volume in a one liter sample of sand, rocks and soil.
Grade: 6th - 8th

PAPER CHROMATOGRAPHY: SEPARATING PLANT PIGMENTS LESSON PLAN AND TEACHER NOTES
As an introduction to the process of chromatography and why it is so useful to scientists in many fields, students will separate the pigments in fresh spinach leaves.
Grade: 6th - 8th

PAPER CHROMATOGRAPHY: SEPARATING PLANT PIGMENTS STUDENT SHEET
Student procedures and questions sheet for the lesson plan: Paper Chromatography: Separating Plant Pigments Lesson Plan and Teacher Notes.
Grade: 6th - 8th

PARK OR PARKING LOT?
Students will learn the difference between pervious and impervious cover and how impervious cover affects runoff rate, erosion rate and water pollution.
Grade: 6th - 8th

REBUILDING NEW ORLEANS
Through the use of online video, interactive maps, and online articles, students will learn to connect the science of hurricanes with the social, political, and economic impacts caused by hurricanes.
Grade: 6th - 8th

SCIENCE RESEARCH & DESIGN IN ENVIRONMENTAL SYSTEMS
You are expected to develop a Webquest on an assigned topic in groups of 2-3. Each group\'s task is to become familiar with the concept and then develop the general format and content area of the webquest.
Grade: 9th - 12th

SOLUBILITY AND CHEMICAL CHANGES IN GROUNDWATER
Students will test pH of water before and after it travels through different substrates (igneous pebbles and limestone) to determine how soluble materials can affect groundwater.
Grade: 6th - 8th

STATISTICS
This lesson helps high school science students learn how statistics are used to interpret results of scientific experiments. It helps resolve misunderstandings about data and shows students how mathematics can help test hypotheses. This lesson plan was developed to help students test their own hypotheses with data collected during field trips.
Grade: 9th - 12th

TERMITE LAB
In this lab students will be introduced to insect behavior as influenced by pheromones. The following will be examined: Reactions of termites to a chemical found in their trail-pheromone and the idea of chemical specificity.
