MAKING CLEAN WATERStudents will construct a filtration system of the own design using provided materials. They will observe and test pH of muddy water before filtration, after 1 filtration and after 2 filtrations. Grade: K - 2nd, 3rd - 5th
MAPPING WITH MAPPOINT?Students will explore online mapping and learn the basic elements of cartography by using the MapPoint? website and the instructional worksheet. Grade: 6th - 8th
MICROBIAL CONTAMINANTSThe student?s will be divided into groups where they will play the role of either a Microbiologist, a patient or recorder. The students will be responsible for finding out what has made the patient sick, how to treat it and what has polluted the ground water supply. Grade: 9th - 12th
ON THE SURFACEStudents should be able to identify Texas cities and major water resources, either ground or surface water. Grade: 3rd - 5th
PARKS, HYDROLOGY, AND THE EDWARDS AQUIFERTo view and manipulate (change color attributes and locate information in the theme data tables) for the Edwards Aquifer Layer, the Colorado River (along with other hydrology information layers), and parks of the Austin Area. Grade: 6th - 8th
PARTICULATE MATTER: THE LORAXThe teacher will read The Lorax by Dr. Suess and instigate a discussion on the harmful effects of air pollution on people. Grade: K - 2nd
PERMEABILITYStudents will measure the permeability of water through sand, rocks, and soil and compare the results. Grade: 6th - 8th
